I became a Marriage and Family Therapist because I know what it is like to be in a dysfunctional family and I wanted to learn how to help other families find healing together. I also help individuals & couples work through their own traumas, insecurities, and issues so they can develop a better relationship with themselves and others, and grow towards the life they want to have.
I have struggled with my own traumas and insecurities and been through times when my relationship with myself was quite toxic. I, myself, have been in therapy several times throughout my life and learned how to find acceptance, care, and love for myself which has ultimately strengthened my relationships with others and helped me to live a life with a perspective of gratitude and fulfillment.
I strive to help my clients feel as comfortable as possible and spend a good bit of time getting to know my client and dive into their world before addressing major issues they might be bringing to therapy. I also find it important to spend some time helping my client determine what they want to be different in their lives and, from there, helping them determine clear, obtainable goals. I make it my goal to meet my clients where they are at in their lives and walk alongside them in their journey towards their goals rather than telling them what they should be doing. I believe clients are the experts of their own lives.
I use Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, and Narrative Therapy to help my clients work towards the goals they want to achieve. Some common outcomes might be to help them develop a healthier relationship with themselves and their emotions, to find more gratitude, acceptance and fulfillment in their lives, to learn how to communicate assertively with others to draw healthy boundaries, to engage in self-care, to connect to their bodies through mindfulness and breathing practices, and learn how they can best cope with stressors in their lives. I try to help my clients remember that progress, NOT perfection is the key to success!
What are four words that clients use to describe you?
non-judgmental, active listener, caring
I am pretty nerdy and can geek out on Star Wars, Game of Thrones, and Lord of the Rings.
I love to practice yoga regularly and love to teach yoga classes. I am currently working towards obtaining my Yoga teacher and Yoga Therapy licenses. I have been singing all of my life and am in a community chorale. Singing is one of my passions and I enjoy every type of music, but mostly listen to Country and Jazz.
As part of the team at MPCW, I’m committed to being present with you, working in collaboration with you to achieve your goals and helping you to improve your relationship with yourself in a healthy way.
