Trauma can be any experience that was scary or overwhelming to us.

We all have a tendency to minimize our past, and recent traumas, due to feelings of vulnerability. Research indicates untreated trauma leads to a myriad of health issues, mental and emotional disturbances, and unhealthy relationships. 

First responders, caregivers and other health care workers quite often experience secondary/vicarious trauma that needs to be discharged from the body/mind or it accumulates over time leading to emotional issues.
