My Story

I became a therapist because I believe in the healing power of an authentic therapeutic relationship in which the individual feels heard, and cared for. So often, people keep all of their beliefs, thoughts, and emotions tucked inside. When the soul speaks, healing happens. I worked as a Registered Nurse (RN) for 19 yrs, and I often wished that I had more time to truly know each of my patients. Now as a therapist, I feel so honored to be present with each client as they welcome me into their experience and allow me to participate in their healing journey. 

I had always been someone who just “fixed” things. If I didn’t like the way something was, I changed it; If I didn’t like something, I would leave. Then, one day I came to a place where things were hard…but I couldn’t leave. As hard as I tried, I could not fix it. I started to notice that my body didn’t feel well. I was always in the fight or flight mode in response to both my perceived situation, and in response to my attempts to change it. 

That’s when I realized that the situation that I tried so hard to change, was sent to change me. It left me with nothing but me. I couldn’t do anything; I had to just be. I adopted meditation, and learned to go in instead of out. I started to live from the inside out. No longer depending on outside circumstances to provide sources of joy, but allowing my inner balance and stability to influence my outside circumstances.

Learning the concept of acceptance was a hard lesson for me to learn, but it shaped me into a new person- A version of myself that understood that I have choices in how I perceive myself, others, and my life situations. That I don’t always have control, and that’s okay. I am here to learn, heal, and help others along the way. 

My Approach and How I Help

I provide a supportive, compassionate environment that allows for authentic expression of thoughts, emotions, and feelings. I use an integrative approach that is specific to the needs of each client. I am EMDR trained, a certified meditation and mindfulness teacher, and Reiki Master. I also often incorporate CBT, attachment theory, and somatic inquiry in my sessions. 

Ultimately, I help clients find the tools to create the changes that they would like to see within themselves, and in their lives. 

I believe that clients heal through a process of both self discovery and self mastery. Healing takes time, and often requires self acceptance and self-compassion in order to move forward. The healing process asks that any shame, or guilt that may arise, as we look back during the journey, be released so that the recognition of progress can be held on to. 

What are the three words that clients use to describe you? Calming, peaceful, and insightful 

On a personal note, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, salsa dancing, all things meditation and Reiki, and exercising. I also love to laugh, and people have been commenting on the way it sounds as far back as I can remember. According to my friends, they can always tell when I’m nearby lol! 

I am excited to work at Mindful Path Counseling & Wellness because it allows me the opportunity to work with others who share the perspective of the importance of providing holistic healing. I don’t believe that a person can truly heal unless we address their whole being- mind, body, and spirit.
